Jamie and Jacob Agius
They say you often tend to write songs about things that you love, well Proud is no exception. It comes straight from the hearts of the both of us. Brought up on the very outskirts of Sydney and being first generation Australians after our parents migrated from Malta, we were taught the Australian way of life right from the word "GO" and whilst we are proud of our heritage, we are first and foremost PROUD TO BE AUSTRALIAN. So we wrote a song about what we love!

Music was in no small way an inspiration to The 1974 Socceroos. ‘Advance Australia Fair’ was the new national anthem and ours was the first sporting event to play it. Without this important music, I seriously doubt we could have gone so far. In 40 years, the ’74 Socceroos have not been surpassed and remain the greatest National Squad in our Country's history.
There was no real money when you consider that the 1970 World Tour that I took the Team on which played 15 games with almost as many Countries and losing only three. The payment to each player for all those weeks and the whole tour was roughly $12. So when I tell you, we didn’t play for the dollar, you will understand.
We didn’t play for the Fame either.
We actually played for Love.
Love of Australia, Love of the game and admiration of each other. The same motives that the Squad still feels after all these years. If there was a secret weapon we had, it was music.
Music was such an intimate part of our success. Even down to our bus trips or indeed, any travelling where we sang songs. Often to Noddy Alstone’s reworked lyrics. It was the glue. Music inspired our determination as a Team as music has for Mankind from its beginnings.
Music’s instant emotional power is beyond words for me.
I will always remember when the music played and how we all stood a little taller, felt a little prouder and the whole stadium seemed to spin. Music was and is a medicine for the blood. It is the boost to honour and anyone who can create a good tune to enhance emotion, pride and joy, gets my support and appreciation.
For just as Sport is international. Music has no borders. We are after all, one species living on the one planet. That is the basic truth of our existence, and music like Sport is our link, the mesh that binds us all together.
Jacob and Jamie show their feelings for our Country by deliberately making music to enhance our real Pride and Honour. For that I am grateful to them.

Ormeau State School's choir has used Proud by Jamie and Jacob Agius as a moving tribute during Anzac Remembrance assemblies on a few occasions. Jacob played a significant part in our program. Our school choir accompanied him one year with the chorus and it was sensational ... emotive ... and musically first class.I can recommend Proud for any occasion of national pride.

If there was a song that represents our family, it would have to be Proud. Proud has meant so much to us. Having it played for family birthdays and weddings through to our beloved war veteran father's funeral, we have always related to this song. I feel it represents our culture and what we stand for. It is all inclusive and brings us all together.
